The Debate

Music plays as Margaret’s slide comes up over the podium. On the screen is a dated, non- professional picture and a bio that reads, “Margaret Donaghue, ex-nun, Catholic progressive advocate.”

Margaret has wandered close to the audience. She spots someone she knows in the crowd. She addresses the person.

Margaret: Oh, Sister Gene, it is you! I thought so! You’ve gotten so old. What memories. Nineteen sixty-seven, Vatican II, all of us young hippies joining together to spread the word of Christ. Oh look at your beautiful beads! Are those amber? Tiger eye? Sandstone? Oh well, what does it matter? Gene!
